Leggy Cosmos seedlings?
in Plants
Hello all,
I have sown a mixture of summer-flowering perennials and annuals in plugs in a propagator.
All are doing well and behaving as expected, with the exception of the Cosmos which have all shot up 4-6 inches of spindly pale shoots.
Is this ok? Will it settle down, or should I cut losses and start again with the cosmos?
thanks in advance.

Seedlings get leggy when they're looking for more light. I take them off the heat and move to a bright windowsill once they've germinated.
I've found that cosmos seeds take off like a rocket, even without the benefit of a heated propagator. You can pot them on into deeper pots, bury them "up to the shoulders" (the first seed leaves). If you have a couple of pairs of true leaves I would pinch them back. This will make them grow bushier.
There's still time to sow more seed if you prefer.
That's great, thank you.
Same thing happened to most of my seedlings too, I did as kitty suggested and they are now outside in a seedling cloch and are doing fine.
