Geranium phaeum being attacked

I love my Geranium phaeum, but something keeps going for it's young leaves, and the plants can't keep up with new growth. The stalks seem to get nibbled through, leaving the small leaves lying next to the plant. Some growth points seem to be nibbled back to a stub. It doesn't seem like slug/snail damage, although I could be wrong.

You're right, not typical of slug/snail damage. Weird, but it sounds more like rabbit.

It's very frustrating. I raised a load of seedlings last year, and they did brilliantly until it looked like someone started coming along with a pair of scissors and snipping the leaves off. Could it be some kind of grub?
Look up cutworms - see if that fits. They're the caterpillars of a few species of moth

I'll wash out the root balls (they're in pots) and see if there's anything lurking. Might be an idea to repot into clean compost and see if they perk up.
Thanks!
Quick update, I removed them from their pots, washed all the compost off the roots, and replanted them directly in the soil. They haven't had any problems since, and are growing nicely.
