BARE ROOT TREE - LEADER BROKEN OFF...
Hi there,
We have recently planted a 3-4 metre bare root ornamental pear tree and shortly after staking it noticed that the leader was snapped and was hanging by a thread!! We pruned it off to the next growth point but I'm now worried how this will affect the future habit of the tree.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

Hi Hanami
Can you post a photo please? If it won't upload try reducing its size.

It's uploaded sideways yet it's rotated in my phone gallery.. Strange.
I took this before planting (when the leader appeared to be intact). I hope it's useful?
I can't see a break in the main stem

No, that was taken before the leader snapped off. The top 6 inches of what you see there has now had to be pruned off.
You pruned down to the next bud? That shouldn't be a problem - the bud will grow a new shoot which will take on the 'leadership role'. There might be a very slight kink in the tip but you really won't notice it.
Enjoy your tree

If it tries to divide and produce more than one leader, just choose the best and remove the rest
