Pericallis
in Plants
Hello,
I bought three of the above in a range of colours, to brighten up my front garden.
I see that they are annuals. Is there any way I can keep them going year by year?
Thanks!

Hi Metalmama. Annuals only live one year and then they are gone hence their name. If they set seed you could save some and sow it but you can also buy seeds and start them fresh each year. These are also known as Cineraria or Senetti.
Thanks, Ladybird
You are most welcome.
They're marketed as perennials here in Texas, but we're a lot warmer year round that you folks. We barely see 2-3 light freezes in winter.
Ahhh hello again Peggy!
Thank you. How are you doing?
Doing just fine, MM, other than my usual fatigue at the end of the day with all the gardening "chores" of love that comes with Spring planting. Hope you are well also.
Hi,
I have been fascinated with Senetti recently and I bought a blue biocolor the other week from my local garden centre, the amount of flowers they produce are amazing. I have 6 mixed senetti plugs coming in the post via ebay too *exciting*
Peggy is right, they are actually perennial but not so much here in the UK as the frost kills them off. That said I was reading that you can keep them alive if you chop them down and keep them protected over the winter but keeping them outside will almost certainly kill them.
Oh I forgot to say, you can also take cuttings late in the summer and keep them inside over the winter while they are rooting. I could be wrong but im pretty sure that if you grow via seed they will not come true. As these plants are hybrids you will need to take cuttings if you want a true copy.
I was really taken with them too, and bought some to brighten up the garden.
As a novice to gardening, when and how are the best way to take cuttings?
I would really like to keep them going as they are so cheery!
Thanks again.
