What to with blackcurrant plant in pot

Last year my son gave us a blackcurrant plant about 18inches tall. We had no chance to plant it out so it is still in the original pot. It has made it through the winter and green shoots are showing at the top and sides.

Do we need to plant it in the garden or would it manage in a new and bigger pot? Last year it produced 1 blackcurrant!

thanks

They really need to be planted into the garden and don't do very well in pots, Sue.  You could try it in a very large one (50cm+) using a John Innes #3 compost or garden soil mixed with well rotted manure but it would need a lot of looking after (regular watering and feeding.)

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
