Daffodil blooms

Something is destroying my daffodil blooms.  The buds open but then the blooms are eaten/shredded and often just disappear completely.  I hope someone can tell me what is causing the problem and how to treat it.

It's not caused by slugs, squirrels and I don't think birds are pecking the blooms.

It appears only the smaller types of daffodils are attacked.  Larger blooms and doubles are ok

Any suggestions welcome.

  • Have you had a good look at the blooms? Have they got tiny black insects on them?

Sometimes you get a thrip on a daffodil bloom which will decimate the bloom.

    Any pheasants in your area?

  • Thanks for your replies.  Definitely no pheasants.  I'll check for the black insects.  If I find they are causing the problem do you know what to use to get rid of them?
