Planting after cherry laurel

I am digging out a large cherry laurel bush and have heard that the poisons in the plant can inhibit the growth of other plants, I plan to plant a number of crops in this patch. Does anyone know if the cherry laurel having been in the soil will have an effect on crops grown in its place and if so any solutions? The soil is quite stony so I plan to replace much of the space currently occupied by stones with compost once the bushes are removed.
