Pricking out grass (probably silly question)

Andy LeedsAndy Leeds Posts: 518

I've sown some briza media and all is looking well.  I assume I don't put these in separate pots as I would with other seeds as, well, er... isn't each seed just one 'blade'?  I've read however to space out seedlings to 30cm - surely not?

What would I do with these I have growing..?

Like I said, probably a silly question ????.

You do pot them separately, I grow those for around the pond. Plant them out 30cms apart, they spread to make a bushy plant.

These grasses are usually grown as ornamentals rather than a lawn so yes, prick them out into small pots and grow them on.   Lift them carefully with a pencil or old dinner fork so you don't disturb the roots.  You could put several in one small pot to make it easier and grow them on.  They can always be divided later if they get too vigorous.

Holy moly that's going to take a while!  Thanks for the clarification - i only used a small sprinkle out of one of three packets I had!

Do these look big enough to prick out now?

Best to get them before the roots get too entangled. You probably don't want that many - start a market stall?image

I'm idle, I prick grasses out in little groups.

Found some time to start on this - shame there's loads left over, just don't have the space for any more!
