Laurel Rejuvenation

Hi all,

I have a laurel hedge and I need to re-stimulate growth at the bottom of the plant, please view the attached pic. What would be the best way to do this ?

Should I just cut all the leaves off at the top ?

Should I cut it back very hard, i.e back to ground level ?

Thanks in advance :)

I'd cut it right back, cutting the top won't help the bottom. It regrows from where the cuts are

You could cut it down to  30cms and by the end of summer it will have grown about 60/70 cms from the bottom, nice and thick.

Thanks for the advice, do I really have to be that severe ?

I would - that way you'll get a really good hedge image

Cut it hard back, give it some Fish, Blood & Bone, water and mulch ... you won't regret it.

An established laurel comes back very quickly. 3 or 4 foot in a year. Worth being hard image
