Choosing between Dahlia seeds and tubers?

BalaBala Posts: 113

I sowed Dahlia seeds 4-5 days ago, bought from wilko.  They have germinated very well and those little things started.

Just wondering, Do they flower in the same year?  If not, I might consider buying few tubers.  Again, those tubers, do they flower in the same year?

The plants started from seeds, do they eventually become tubers as well?

thanks

I've flowered dahlias from seed in the first year, I should think that's usual, they're very quick.

    Tubers will flower

Yes Bala, you will have flowers this year. I've grown dahlias from wilko seeds before, it was the pompon mix. They grew big tubers in the same season too, I dug them up and tried to store them overwinter but failed.

Sowing seed again this year, a dwarf dahlia this time.

Thank you!  I have sowed both Dwarf and Pomon mix.  Thinking of trying Cactus variety as well.

I often grow dahlia from seed. Bedding dahlias can be in flower in ten weeks. The large exhibition type take longer as they have to be bigger plants. I pick the best to save as tubers for the following year.
