Polygala Myrtifolia

The Polygala Myrtifolia in my front garden has done well for a few years now but has developed an alarming amount of yellow leaves this spring. What is this? Frost damage? Virus?

Gardening. The cause of, and solution to, all of my problems.

  • Did you ever find out why and did it die, or did you manage to revive your Polygala, mines gone yellow leaved in the last few days ?

You can post a photo of your plant so others can analyse. The original poster's issues developed in spring. Might be completely different reasons.

Yellowing of leaves can be due to lack of water or the opposite, suffering from water-logged soils. Check the soil conditions first. Although they like the warm conditions, the weather has been erratic the last month or so. From hot weather to wet and stormy wet weather. Not the type of conditions this shrub will enjoy.

In times of stress, evergreen plants will drop leaves. Make sure it has some back protection if grown in a colder part of the UK. The soil should be free draining and the plant should not be grown with over-hanging trees.
