Early Dahlia
in Plants
Hi, can anyone advise. I have started my Dahlias and they are growing so fast I may have started too soon. Am I ok to cut away the longer stems and encourage new shoots. Thanks, Pottingmad

I think it depends whereabouts in the country you are and whether the risk of frost has passed...
In South Yorkshire. They are still in plant pots. Removed from conservatory and now in outdoor mini greenhouse
I'm sure there'll be someone along in a minute who can advise you on your specific conditions
No idea about greenhouses as I don't have one!
Pinch out the stems, it will make them more bushy and more flowers. If the stem isn't hollow they can be used as cutting.
I would bring the dahlia back indoors at night if they is any chance of frost.

Thank you. How would you take a cutting and root/plant.
Just pop it in some damp multipurpose compost and place in a propagator / seal it in a sandwich bag etc and leave on a bright windowsill not direct sunlight though . Should take a few weeks to root.
