It started flowering about a month/6 weeks ago, we're on acid soil and it's got big glossy leaves. Great ground cover plant! We're in South Devon on a West-facing slope... I'd love to know what it is, if anyone can help please :)

Thanks! Any advice on how to tidy it up a bit would be greatly appreciated!

You can cut off any rough looking leaves or dig it all up after the flowers have finished, replant the best bits

    In the sticks near Peterborough

Yes, true! I may pull out some of the plants that are growing close to the lawn edge. It's about 2m x 1m spread, so it's time I got into the middle of it and pulled out some of the dead leaves!

There is one called Helen Dillon which I would love to get hold of. It has wonderful dark purple leaves at this time of year.image

That's very nice Berghill. Foliage looks much smaller than the usual ones - or am I mistaken? It  would suit some areas I have. Does it have pink flowers?

I love the whites but they can be a bit hit and miss.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I think those were the new leaves. They get bigger as the season goes on.

It is the same plant as B. Irish Crimson. Have not got a picture of the flower colour.

Common name 'elephant ears', I think.

I am also in Devon and my bergenias got completely eaten by something this week - either deer or rabbits, we have lots of both ....? Grrrr
