Bamboo, Planters and Splitting

I have purchased two 1m long zinc trough planters so I can plant bamboo to create a screen in front of a window that overlooks my garden. Should I just fill the planters with compost or do I need to add anything else?

Also one of my neighbours has a large bamboo plant in her very large garden that she has said I am welcome to split so I can fill my planters. It's around 7-8ft tall. What is the best way to remove this so I can plant it? Should I just use a spade to dig down and around so I can remove two clumps?

I have a large golden bamboo in a container and was advised by the garden centre to use tree and shrub compost. It has been growing very well in that over the last few years.

I'm not sure about splitting the bamboo and I actually need to divide mine this year as it has outgrown the container! Hopefully someone on here can help.

I think first of all, you need to know exactly which Bamboo you are planting, splitting, etc.Don'tt accept your neighbour's offer because it is freeimage

To provide a healthy green screen, you need to provide a good base - they are quite greedy plants.

A trough as described is perhaps a bit iffy ?  No width or depth measurements offered but you could only expect a decent bamboo to do well if you were able to give depth and width to get the best out of it. Good soil and feed would be necessary but little point unless the container is large enough to do it justice.

The bamboo I believe is Phyllostachys Nigra.

The planter sizes are 100cm wide, 40cm high, 40cm deep.
