Pearis
Help, my 8ft high peris which is in flower at the moment, the majority of the leaves are black they feel normal to touch, I have tried black spot treatment Any ideas what this could be and treatment will be appreciated. I am worried that I may have to take it out.

Might need a photo, but I suspect sooty mould. Is the black on the top of the leaf and does it wash off, with a gentle rub. If so, the next thing is to look on the underside of the leaves, especially those higher up the plant and see if you can spot tiny greenish or sandy coloured 'discs' on the midrib of the leaf, of on the green stems of the plant. They will be scale insect, sap sucking and the plant will need a spray to kill them. They exude honeydew, a sugary substance which drops onto the leaves below. Sooty mould forms on that.
