Myrtle Communis

in Plants
I quite fancy growing Myrtle against a south facing fence. I know it is considered quite tender but I wondered if anyone had been successful in growing it in the ground and if they had any tips.

I had one for years but one of those very cold winters finished it off. (Peterborough) It wasn't in a protected site, trees around but no warm wall.
In the sticks near Peterborough
Thanks for the input Nut, I'm still undecided whether to risk it as the proposed site is in a very prominent position in the garden and I don't want to leave a hole if it fails.
I inherited one in the garden when I moved in to my present house in 2007. I live east of Manchester at about 400ft above sea level. Bush/tree is not against a wall or even south facing but is very sheltered by adjacent shrubs. Soil is a cold wet clay, so they are reasonably tough, I think cold east or north winds could be a their main problem.
Well I've bought one and planted it. Will keep you posted how it fares.
Had one growing in an exposed Lincolnshire garden for many years ; tougher than you might think !
