Water logged veg bed

I have made a veg bed in front of my greenhouse. I have gone to do some digging today and discovered that it is completely water logged nearly 1ft down. The ground is not clay, so any suggestions on how best to improve drainage before setting about planting/sowing any veg in it?

    Hi Richard image

Does your greenhouse have guttering and a downpipe leading to a water-butt, or is the rain running off the roof straight onto the soil below?

If it isn't clay down there, what is the soil like?

  • The soil is a heavy loam, the rain is running off the greenhouse roof onto soil below. There is no water butt attached to the guttering.
