Amateur gardeners needing help!

sarahlfsarahlf Posts: 2

My husband and I have had our front drive landscaped. Which now gives us quite a large planting area above a steep wall.

we really don't want to waste our money in getting the wrong plants to fill the area..that's where we need help and advice!

Its in direct sunlight for majority of the day. What plants would be best for us to plant that will look good all year round and also, what would be best to plant to cascade down the brick wall?

any help would be very much appreciate!

    How big is the area?

A pic would be good! Are you looking for shrubs or perennials, colourful or evergreen etc?

So this is the picture of the current state of out drive.

The planting area is going to sit above the wall, towards the window. (where the pebbles are currently) so quite a large space. This front gets direct sunlight most of the day.

we'd ideally like something that will cascade down the wall. Then plants that will be low maintenance, look appealing all year round with a bit of colour.

We've wasted so much money in the past buying the wrong type of plants. We want to research and plant this right the first time.

thanks for reading..and any help is much appreciated!

    More questions :-

    What kind of soil?  Heavy/sandy/clay/loam/acid/neutral/alkaline?

Is the soil in that bed topsoil or lumps of sub soil from the excavations?

How cold do you get in winter?
