Sowing primrose seeds
in Plants
Can I sow common primrose seeds in pots and put the seeds out in the cold frame to germinate at this time of year
Thanks

That's how I did it a few years ago and we've got some lovely clumps now.
I seem to remember being advised not to cover the seeds.

primrose seed is best sown fresh, even green, then left outside over winter
But if you've got the seed sow it, don't wait, it won't get any fresher

Better to wait until late summer/autumn. The seeds only germinate if temperatures are below 20 degrees, 15 to 18 is better. Then have to be grown on cool, 10 to 15 degrees. At that time of year. nature does the tricky bit for you! Sow outside, don't let them dry out, watch out for slugs when they are tiny. Otherwise fairly easy, and once you have a few plants you can divide them and make more that way too

One of the delights of spring - or longer!
Lovely pic nut - what's not to like.
Mine flower for large parts of the year in our cooler conditions. I love them, and they're multiplying very quickly now.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
