Dahlia in pots

Xyz123Xyz123 Posts: 53

Hi, as per title am looking to grow dahlias in containers. I would like a medium size plant rather than small ones. Any recommendations for which variety?

I have never grown then before so sorry for stupid question but how to grow tubers. I have seen it recommended to pot them up as they grow but to start with do I just use John innes compost with some Grit and plant one tuber per pot? Ta

Last year I grew some Wilkos cheap dahlias in pots of coir mixed with vermiculite. i tubar per medium sized pot and had a lovely display for a £ a plant.

wilkos has some really nice dahlias for a pound each or bags of 3 for £2.50. Great value.

Hi, i'm a dahlia beginner too, so looking forward to your reply posts ? I have potted my new tubers, one per pot in general compost, given them some water and have put them in my cold greenhouse. Maybe have a look on Sarah Ravens website, she has lots of dahlia's to choose from...personally I bought gerrie hoek, cafe au lait and ricolette from her, they arrived, nice big tubers. I bought a few more from local garden centre but quality no comparison to Sarah Raven, hers were more expensive but are far superior in quality ?
