Any ideas what this plant is called
I have had this plant growing in my garden for about 30 years and i have no idea what it is. It has been slowly spreading with lots of roots that are very hard to remove. I have left it alone as it was under shrubs and looked fine but now the shrubs have died (old age) and I would like to grass this area over. Many times I have looked on the internet or asked people but have never found out what it is and how to get rid of it easily. Please does any one know what it is?

Sorry, but the thumbnail photos are too small to see anything.
Any chance of a larger photo?
Sorry I will try again. Thank you for looking.
That looks like Dogs Mercury - a wild native woodland plant often regarded by gardeners as a weed.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Rather than digging it out you may have to use chemicals - one of the systemic weed killers, or cover it over with black plastic and deprive it of light. Once you think it is truly dead remove as much of the roots as you can ( don't compost it ).
Thank you so much Dovefromabove and Esspee. I have never heard of Dogs Mercury. And thank you for the getting rid of it infomation.
