What Tree?
Hi forumers! Looking to buy 2 mature-ish trees for screening to give privacy overlooking at the back of the house. I want something that's going to grow quickly, leaf up quickly etc. Here's the situation: Houses at the back are a good 70 feet from the bottom of the garden so not close but they could see into our garden if in their upstairs rooms. Current fences are 6ft high so they need to be taller than that obviously. Would be planted close to the fenceline and in between established sycamores (about 6-8 feet apart so plenty of room). Aspect of the garden is North/South with the trees at the Northern end so sunny-ish but quite a lot of shade from the other trees.
Have thought about silver birch but want something that leafs up early in the year (or blossoms). Also seen Pyrus calleyrana suggested. Bird Cherry Tree? Perhaps Hawthorn? Happy to spend around £50-£60 per tree so mature specimens not out of scope. Any suggestions folks?

Just a thought, but could you also consider a large and fast growing shrub, perhaps, instead of a tree?
Something used to competing under a tree canopy...camellia?
Have I got this right? If you've got established sycamores only 6 - 8 ft apart they'll soon form a solid screen, I can't imagine that you'll need anything else. I certainly can't think of any trees that you could plant between them - they'd only be 3 - 4 ft apart.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Yes DFA, there are sycamores but at this time of year, there are gaping holes in between them and we are just feeling a bit exposed! We do have some shrubs already but they are still quite small so only fence height or below so far. Will have a look at the Portuguese Laurel. Thanks again and happy gardening! ?
