Plant id

Any ideas on this shrub? I was given it last year in the autumn so no idea if it flowers, it's evergreen. They had it in a pot and was becoming potbound, since putting it in my garden its soon grown new leaves, in clay soil which it seems to like. Not sure how much help that is
