Compost bin in small garden
Hi all,
I have a small garden but have had a large Green Johanna out there for the past two years. It has helped me make a lot of compost to fill my new beds for cheap and I rather love it, though struggle to fill it over the year.
I have recently rejigged my garden to make more beds and to make it more aesthetically pleasing. It will never be perfect as I'm not doing a whole garden makeover, and am on a budget!
Sadly my rather large compost bin just doesn't seem to have a place to live without being an eyesaw. My beds are so small, despite removing most of the paving apart from paths that it sticks out like a sore thumb! I've been debating trellis or other ways to mask it, but I think all my ideas wont hide it well.
It also shades a largish space of my beds, and I'm pretty short on sunlight being East facing.
I feel I have three options.
One, leave it in the position I have chosen and just do my best to plant up around it with small strips of trellis and climbers.
Two, halve it in height and store the bottom half. This will reduce the footprint slightly, stop a lot of shading of other plants, probably be easier to fill as I do struggle to fill the large bin. I'm not sure if it will reduce the speed or effectiveness of composting?
Three, sell it (maybe?) or try and store it broken into parts and then build a free wormery, which I can put in my shed easily.
Help!?
Thanks, Nat

Hi Natbat
I know this sound a bit simple but why not buy a smaller compost bin to suit the size and needs of your garden. I have 3 compost bins all different heights and widths. The smallest is only 40ins high by 24in base
