Inspiration needed please! We have a short ish section of east facing fence that I'd like to plant something in front of to screen it. It doesnt need to cover the whole fence height and I'm not looking for climbers. What would you do?
Sarcococca? Will do fine in pots and the smell of the tiny flowers in February/March is glorious.
Followed by berries, loved by the birds.
That said, they are slow growers, so if you're looking for speed and coverage, without invading an entire garden, and can pot them up so they don't dry out, how about bamboo?
Avoid camellias though and other shrubs that don't like a blast of east sun when it's frosty.
Will depend to some extent on what you actually like too

I was thinking of lavender but I don't think it'll get enough sun.
