Is this bush sick?

Any advice how to save it if it is sick would be really appreciated.

It was very overgrown so cut quite far back and now the cuts have this darkness to them so I am worried it's sick.

Looks like Leylandii from zooming in on the picture. It won't re-grow from dead wood, hard pruning will cause die back & you've been left with the woody remains.

I agree with Mark, sorry. Consider it as an opportunity to grow something more interesting

  • Yes, it's a Leylandii. Oh, dear so will the whole thing die now? I tried to cut only enough so that it wasn't tipping over into my garden by it's own weight.

Hi Ken, it won't die completely - it'll probably still be green on the other side of the hedge but it won't regrow your side, it'll stay just as it is I'm afraid.

  • Thanks, Mark. Although I am worried that the dark spots are mould?

branches left as stubs with no leaves on them can suffer die back and be a source of infections. Best cut back to the main trunk
