Go and wash your mouth out with soap - artificial grass??!!  I can just visualise forum members going down with 'the vapours' now image

To get a level and true surface you will probably need to rotovate first unless you have exceptionally level ground.  You could weed kill to get rid of the grass but that will take time to have an effect.  If the artificial grass needs to be at the same level as the existing, then you will need to remove the turf.  A turf removal machine will be the easiest way to get it off if you need to.

  • Thanks, only getting articulate grass as my garden gets no sun and turns into a quagmir!! Not ideal for my son to play on

Djames, My son in law just laid a Astro Turf lawn, apart from the fact I will never speak to him again, that is by and by, he had to lift the old lawn ruined by a Lurcher Pup, I said a humane killer would be cheaper. He then put down two dumpy bags of sand and grit to level it, then a membrane and then the Astro Turf which the dog promptly we-heed on. Mind what you buy for a young child or children some of the Turf is soft some burns if you skid on it and some is quite sharp, a local foot ball team took theres up when the players were getting injured. I do believe it is better than it once was but I do ask where does the water go when we have heavy rain?

    Frank.

  • Thanks, so i presume i would only need a rotivator to turn the old turf and to take it down to a decent level before i lay a weed-proof membrane then the leveling sand.
