Lsurely going yellow
I had a hedge of laurel planted last year. Watered daily. Now the whole hedge looks a little yellow. Any advice? Am I over watering or under? Do my plants need supplements - like me? Picture attached. Janice ps The title started off as "Laurel ".

hi Janice
The picture hasnt uploaded - try reducing it in size.
I think the likelihood is that it's unhappy with so much water - it shouldn't have needed watering through the winter.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I'd agree with Dove, Janice. Laurel is as tough as old boots and it tends to turn yellow when there's a magnesium deficiency, which is easily addressed. Over watering certainly isn't good for it. It can cope with any amount that falls out the sky, so if you're in a wet location, the preparation of the ground before planting is the most important thing.
Buying large plants is also another problem - they're harder to establish, and can yellow more quickly as the roots find it hard to support the top. If you've planted large specimens - it helps to cut them right back on planting.
The pic will help if you can manage it though
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I agree. Too much water deprives the roots of oxygen which they need to function well and also leaches goodness out of the soil.
Try giving it a foliar feed by dissolving Epsom Salts in water - 1tbs to a gallon or 15mls to 5 litres - and a drop of washing up liquid to help it adhere then spray on the leaves or pour over gently using the spray head on your watering can.
Thanks for your advice. I haven't actually watered it during the winter months as there seemed to be enough from heaven! I'll get to it. The laurel is flowering nicely.
