Root rot hybrid tea rose - help!
Hi i have a hybrid tea rose 'Mum in a million' (sentimental as it was given to me after mum died last year) It is planted in a wooden planter. It bloomed beautifully last year i pruned in january and now the new leaves are wilted/mushy and the stems that were cut are turning black. I think it may be root rot??? Can anyone advise please what i should do.

Hi kinsannie
Sorry to hear that your rose looks poorly - especially as it's so special. My mother died last year too. We planted an amelanchier which will have blossom this spring - she died the day after her 92nd birthday in April.
I think you may have pruned your rose too early - pruning stimulates new growth and new growth is soft and tender and susceptible to damage by frost and cold winds. I prune my HT roses at the end of Feb/early March, depending on the weather.
Can you post a photo of the rose on here - start by clicking on the camera icon - if the photo doesn't upload you may need to reduce it in size.
