Any suggestions
in Fruit & veg
I have a 9 yr old Greengage tree that has been producing fruit well until last year.
Last year it produced a lot of leaf but only fruit on one side ( we put it down to a late frost getting to the blossom). On examination this spring it appears to be budding on one side but no sign of anything on the other, we have no signs of insects, always use moth traps. Am at a loss as to what to do, are we best just cutting back the dormant side? Twigs are still flexible so I don't think it's completely dead. HELP

I expect there's some damage and it may be at the graft union, so that water and nutrient flow is stopped from travelling up one side of the tree. Look for damage low down, just in case, (things like strimmer and mower damage). It may be that the sap flow was sufficient for a few years while the tree was smaller, but now it's not enough to sustain the growth. The result of all that is that one side will die. One thought does occur, did it always fruit on that side before the recent failure?
