Seedling identity

wakeshinewakeshine Posts: 975

Hi there

Does anyone happen to know what these could be? I had stuck various seeds into pots here and there and forgotten. The only things I remember are tamarind seeds and date seeds. I had a look on google and those seedlings don't look like this. Or is it something I maybe haven't put? Thanks in advance.

Those look like tree seedlings, possibly sycamore or ash.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Those are the cotyledons or seed leaves and many look like that no matter what plant they are so they're no clue as to identity.

The leaves that develop next should be more typical of the plant, so show us another pic when they appear.

I'd agree with Bob. I pull out loads every year round here!  I'd go with sycamore image

Bob I think you're right - there is a sycamore seed helicopter thing in the pot, I have just noticed it in the picture. Thanks!

And thanks Dovefromabove I'd forgotten about cotyledons, should have paid attention in A level biology! Brilliant Fairygirl! Looks like I'll be pulling lots out too. Not even started weeding this year yet sigh

+1 for it looking like the sycamore trees that are all over my lawn (again). They get everywhere!

It's ok - you can mow them with the grass - that keeps them at bay image

We had a huge sycamore inthe garden round the corner. I loved it and the seedlings weren't really an issue as they got mown. The new owners have butchered it - completely unnecessarily. It didn't affect light or anything else and was stunning in autumn. image
