Hostafan, There are some people in this world who see things from a high pedestal. We must all live this way or the world will end. It has existed for eons and pottered along the same old way until suddenly those people appeared. On the news last night it showed children dying from lack of water and food and the figures are mind blowing, I saw such sights sixty years ago and thought things would be much better, now they are now much worse after Politicians have interfered then left the mess. I wonder how some people can close their eyes to what their so called saving the world from itself can do for so many others.
My time is over having seen fads come and go and nothing really changing for the better I will leave it to the youngsters, when they reach the age I am now things may have got better though I doubt it.
We have just started our container garden and we are only buying peat free compost. Bought from an online company a good number of sacks of peat free MPC as it was the most cost effective compost to buy and it seems to be doing a good job. Currently have seedlings growing in it with extra drainage added and it works fine for larger plants as well
last year i decided to try coir as a growing medium in my pots and planters and had excellent results with it. i add vermiculite sand or grit as well depending on what the planter will be used for.
i feel that coir is now a viable alternative to mpc and better quality than a lot on the market. it also comes from a substainable sourice, lighter to use and comparable in price.
i still use some mpc on the borders and beds but hopefully with adding more composts bins to my garden even that will no longer be needed.

Thanks Hortum-cretae the Sylvagrow with JI sounds like the sort of thing I'm after. I've found several fairly local stockists so I'll try a bag.
