i am intending to build my own timber greenhouse. Has anyone here embarked on such a project? Any useful tips and advice would be welcome.

its not going to be huge around 8x6 or maybe a round shape.

Definitely interested in photos if you do decide to go round!

if you can build stuff then a greenhouse should be no problem. Are you thinking dwarf walls or glass to ground?

If I were building my own greenhouse I would build it a bit taller at the sides than shop bought ones as the extra growing space is good if growing tomatoes.

Remember to incorporate lots of opening windows or glass vents at the bottom and of course plenty of top vents/windows. A screen door would also be on my list to keep out birds and neighbouring cats.

A bottom vent opposite the door as well.I have staging along one side and half of the staging has a heating cable in a wooden box of sand and the other half is gravelled. My staging supports and tops are metal.

Electrics of course are a given.

I have toughened glass in mine but that is a luxury. My greenhouse backs on to a public path so I was wary of kids throwing stones and the toughened glass has been a godsend.

I am a great fan of a concrete base. It is easy to sweep clean and I think protects from beasties and such like.
