Hi, I've just ordered 60 large plug plants 20 of which are trailing lobelia. I was wondering if I could split the lobelia plugs into two? Or would it be too damaging to the delicate roots?
Hi bea5 I grow lobelia from seed and have tried to split lobelia plugs before and I wouldn't advise, I end up having the same amount or less plants than I started with. I tried it the last two years on the trot and both attempts have been failures.
Hi Perki, Thanks for reply. They are for small balcony pots and wanted to split so they will trail both sides...guess i'll just have to buy more plugs. Thanks for good advice.
Maybe a ladies hand is more gentle Perki, no disrespects? I have spit those tiny but but you do need to be very gentle, don't ram them into the new compost to tightly, leave the compost a bit lose, you will have to pot them up anyway, they won't be big enough to plant out and it's too soon,
they may be a bit sparse the ones you buy are not that compact. Next year, have a go at growing some yourself, you can do it your kitchen.
