Blind Daffodils

in Plants
If a clump of daffodils come up 'blind' one year, does that mean they will never flower again? If I moved them might they flower again? Thank-you.

I believe this can happen from not planting the bulbs deep enough. It has happened before in my garden and I have replanted with success.
I lose some where the shade is too much for the bulbs to build up a flower for the following year. Other than that I think the biggest culprit is tying them up or cutting off the leaves before they die back naturally. The leaves are the powerhouse that makes the energy. They need all the sunshine they can get.
I find some varieties more inclined to do this.
Some go on forever, Feb Gold, Jet Fire, Ice Follies.
Some don't flower many times before losing it, Sweetness did that for me twice.
Being shaded out will do it as well. I have flowers on long-blind daffs, after coppicing the hazels they were under.

Daffodils also like plenty of moisture at their roots in the late spring/early summer - remember in the wild they live naturally in damp meadows alongside watercourses which are prone to flooding and of course places they're well known for growing in places of high rainfall such as the Lake District.
Our garden is quite dry in the summer, so I always try to give my daffs a couple of really good soakings before they die down.

Thank you for all your replies.
I do leave the leaves on for several weeks before tidying up.
As long as I know they are not a lost cause I will dig them up and replant deeper in another place and cross fingers for next year.
Don't worry about the renaming Verdun, I quite like 'cloudybits'!!
