Plant cuttings

I took these 'bowle's mauve' cuttings last spring. I threw them in the pot and forgot about them, they've been outside all winter and I'm amazed they are still alive.

What should I do with them now? Pot on, pinch out the tips to encourage bushing out, feed them, or just leave well alone?

Thanks in advance ????

Are there roots coming out of the bottom of the pot?

If there are, then you can pot on.

  • If you took them last spring then there would'nt be anything benificial in that pot for them. I'd lift them, keeping the soil around the roots which may be small, and either plant them out somewhere or pot them into fresh compost. Good luck and well done.

I was pleasanrly surprised how many roots there were.

The main stems of the cutting are bare and continue for a further few cm's below the soil line with only roots coming from the very end of the stem. I have repotted at the same soil level again. Do you think this was correct?

would you recommen pinching out the tips now to help them become bushier?

I would have planted them back in compost up to the green, or shoulders as we call it.
