Damaged lawn
Moved into a house last year and due to having baby and work i let garden get out of hand. Gave it a quick cut once but it still looks terrible. Covered in moss. Was going to rake it out and aerate soil but wasnt sure if needs something more major. Any help appretiated as hoping to get it looking good before summer.

Congratulations on the new home and baby
Raking out the moss and aerating is certainly what I'd do to start off - then some feed for the lawn - can use a proprietory lawn feed or I sometimes use this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Westland-Seaweed-Enhanced-2-5kg-/282378207911?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
or if you wish you can use a 3 or 4 in 1 lawn preparation which will kill the moss and any weeds and feed the grass at the same time. It can look a bit alarming when you do this as the moss turns black and you still have to rake it out, but it does work.
If you this, remember not to put the first three mowings onto the compost heap as the weedkiller it contains will remain in the compost and damage your plants in the future.
Hope that helps

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I love moss, my lawn (well actually not what you'd call a lawn) is full of it
