Removing Leylandii

Don't cut the trunks to low just cut low branch's off so you can dig around the bottom then use trunk for leverage and they will come out easy. Most of them will only have 2 or 3 big roots to cut though.

Never use a chainsaw for cutting anything with soil on it will only ruin your chain.

    Well I got there :)

I couldn't get the Leylandii out even tugging it with the D-Max... So I dug around the trunk as much as possible and cut them off... They will have to rot down...

The new privet is about 4' away from the stumps and I didn't find any roots when I dug about 18' down to fork a load of feed into the soil. The Rootgrow didn't go as far as I expected although I didn't run out...

Any guidlines on watering? I've been going round with the watering can every morning although the ground has never really dried out. Can I over water them?

Thanks Verdun, I'll just water when we have gone with any rain for a while then :)

So far the ground has always been moist which looks good to me :)

Any idea what that tree is to the left while I'm here?

A photo of the bark and leaves a bit later in the season would give us a chance to ID it for you image
