I thought people might be interested (or horrified!) to see what I found on top of my propagator lid the other day...

It took a while (after I'd stopped freaking out!) to work out that it wasn't a new species of fluffy spider disguised as a poodle, but it is.... be afraid... be very afraid... a zombie spider: http://www.uksafari.com/curse_of_the_zombie_spiders.htm

Horribly gruesome, but all the more fascinating for that :-)

    Reminded me of the cordyceps fungus, but that one works from the inside out.

    Good heavens! Wish I hadn't read that last bit, I'll be having nightmares! The thought of earwigs is bad enough.
