daisy doodaisy doo Posts: 90

Hi all,

Havent posted on here for ages as had gone off gardening after hurting my back so the thought of going out in the garden made me wince.

Anyway back is a bit better so thought id get ONE plant for the garden sadly the one plant has morphed into lots as seen loads on ebay, lidl and local nursery. Oops???? now i have to plant them. There goes my back again!

Anyone else struggling with temptation?

    Thanks kitty,

Maybe your right. if i tell myself new plants are there to be planted, meaning gentle excercise which may be what i need for my back. I wont feel so guilty lol ?

know what you mean Daisy with the temptation most of my garden is full up now with perennials, background shrubs and roses so it just leaves me with bulb buying now at either end autumn for tulips etc and spring for buying dahlias , cannas and gladioli

`In my experience of having had a bad back ('almost unable to get out of bed to get to the loo' bad!) sitting or lying around is not the best trearment. Though it is very hard to make yourself do it, keeping moving does far more good! Take it gently, nothing strenuous, no sudden jerks, but keep moving. It will gradually improve.

It also helps if you can identify the moves that set it off, so that you can avoid them in future and find another way to do things. Partly for this reason I tend to avoid painkillers unless the pain is absolutely unbearable, as I believe it is a useful warning system to help you monitor the effects of your activityimage

So go ahead and plant those plants, a few at a time, using the method that works best for you  and the activity will soon strengthen your muscles and loosen your joints and you'll be raring to go!

    Thanks all,

Although sometimes gardening can be a dreaded chore. Its also therapeutic and you always feel youve achieved something no matter how small. Ive done small sessions and feel better for it even if my back isnt 100%.

With my new found enthusiasm and multiple plant purchases am eager to get going ?
