Hi, can I jump in here with a lawn question? I'm a first time lawn owner just moved into a new house. I've got some Evergreen 4-in-1 I want to get down, mainly to treat weeds (we have a bit of a dandelion situation going on!). I just have a couple of questions regarding application conditions.
lawn length - I last cut the lawn about 2 weeks ago or so, and at the same time had a big dethatching session with the rake. The moss situation isn't bad but a lot of dandelions. grass is quite long in places, but not OTT. Do I need to cut before applying? The instructions say not to apply 2-3 days after cutting, but I want to get this down this weekend.
Soil moisture - it's been a very dry month or so, but we did get some rain this week, which I thought would be perfect as the instructions state dry grass but moist soil. However I have had a feel round and the soil feels really dry in most places (where it has been in the sun this morning).
Should I water the lawn to wet the soil and then apply once the grass is dry, or is this pointless/counterproductive
Thanks for your help. Pic below if useful sorry if it is the wrong way round!
I would give the lawn an exceptionally good drenching with a sprinkler. Check the water has really penetrated the soil then allow the grass to dry before using the 4in1
If the main problem is dandelions why not just paint them with a systemic weed killer? Or when they are wet just spoon some lawn sand into the centre of the rosettes?
