Ilex holly identification

a1154a1154 Posts: 1,108

I have just bought some hollies in the GC winter stock sell off.

Nothing written on it but ilex.

Green,  not variegated, full of berries. They have an oddly small leaf (compared to my other hollies) and even though quite small now, are multi stemmed and densely packed.

I dont mind what kind they are but i could do with knowing speed of growth and eventual height. Does a small leafed holly make a smaller plant?

Pic i just took is rubbish, ill have to try again.

Does the GC have a website with a list of plants stocked?  That might give you a clue.image

Might be Ilex x meserveae a hybrid of our native holly which is called "Blue Holly".

I think Invicta2 is right, and it's a female form of Ilex x meserveae.  There are a few named varieties - 'Blue Princess' is one which is readily available.  Sorry, don't know if that is it...

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Ah right, it looks v similar.  looks like its normal in terms of height then, not a miniature. Excellent.
