Well, ideally, yes. But my garden (of a skinny terrace house) is four meters wide and I have a compost area of about 1.5 meters square (shared with a water butt). I don't have room to go large. Beechgrove and many others have tested the Hotbin and found it to be great, if you look after it.  I don't have room for heaps and don't have a chipper.

My Hot Bin as got up to 45oC in the ten days since I got it running and the compost is hot to the touch. As I only have space for small darlek-type bins, this is pretty amazing. But I do notice the worms are not happy. I had put some old wormy, compost and manure in to bump the temps. The worms are all trying to escape. (Woodlice seem to be delighted, though). In regular large pallet-type bins (over a cubic metre ), do you notice that worms don't like hot compost? I love my worms and run most of my small bins as compost and vermiculture together, which works well. I will continue to push the heat up towards 70oC, but worry about my poor worms. They do so much wonderful stuff for compost.
