Does this Oriental Poppy need splitting?

CraighBCraighB Posts: 758

Hi guys,

I bought this oriental poppy last year and it was a tiny little thing so I have been potting it on over winter. Its now sent up some shoots but there seems to be two of them. Is this 2 separate plants that are growing next to each other or is it 2 seperate shoots coming from one plant?

If it's 2 separate plants will I need to split them apart?

Thanks :)

I would leave it alone and let it bulk up before splitting it, it only small at the moment.

agree, leave it alone. Propagate by root cuttings when it's big enough

    Thanks both.

So is this 2 plants or 1 plant with 2 shoots?

I don't necessarily want to propagate it. The only reason I mentioned splitting it is because I didn't know if they would be happy being that close together? (If this is 2 plants that is)

Craigh, without digging it up, you can't say if it's one or two plants.

I agree with others. let it bulk up. One big clump is more impressive than two puny clumps.
