I'd agree with Kitty's assessment re the  raised beds, SandT. You have a nice level plot to sit the sleepers on, so no need for extra supports.  Plenty of scope for all sorts of planting there  image

Mine was a bare plot with red gravel, ugly slabs and a fence, four years ago. It's surprising how quickly you can make changes.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    All of it Fairy ?

Maybe I was imagining some purple alliums in there somewhereimage. I'm sure I've seen a purple clematis though... might be the slatted wall???

Etoile Violette is on the fence in first pic Kitty - along at the right hand side. Think that pic was July so it wasn't fully in flower. It covers a big area though. I also have an Alpina (Constance) in there too - it flowers in spring.

This pic is a bit later - that's about half of it.

I do have alliums - mainly sphaerocaphalons, which are a bit later flowering, although the squirrels had a few of them last year so there wasn't many in that main bed.  I planted more last autumn though. I've moved a few things too, and there are more clematis to fit in elsewhere now that I've finished my extension.
