Plant ID please
Hi... This grows in my garden since I've moved in. Most years I pull it up early but I thought I'd wait to see what it is. It's getting bigger and I have more than I thought so I'm getting nervous. I don't think I want it, especially not where it is, but it would be nice to know what it is. It has thick, spiky leaves.

Could be one of many bulbs. Leave it to flower and then you'll see if it's a keep or a digger up and chuck. However, if you have scalped it every year it may not have had the energy to make flowers and all you'll get is greenery which needs to be left on to feed the bulb for flowers next year..

I've been digging these up for years - no idea what they are, maybe some sort of sedge, but it get's a brown feathery grass-like seed head. Not very interesting, so I just get rid. At first I thought maybe some sort of iris, but definitely not.
Be interesting to know what they are though

2 different plants, the top looks like Iris foetidissima the second Carex pendula. Feel the leaves, run your finger down the back. The Carex will have a ridge, the iris is flat. and the two are arranged differently at the base

Ah.... well spotted. I think I grouped them in my mind as "unknown spiked leaf plants." I think I'll keep the iris and dig out the carex (which is growing underneath my euonymus.

Careful with the carex pendula. It gets highly invasive and grows to a large clump. Don't let it seed.
