Think hydrangea is dead
in Plants
Hello,
I had a gorgeous big hydrangea plant in my front garden but this was pruned to oblivion my now ex husband and I am only left with nothing but brown dead looking stumps
It was such a lovely healthy plant that people would hide parcels under it if we were out as it made an excellent concealed area.
I have put compost around it, watered it and tied up the stalks to try and give it support, but it's still a sad, stumpy mess.
Can it be revived or is it too late? I can add a photo if anyone can give me an honest opinion.
Thanks!

When did he prune it? If it was in the autumn you may well find it starts making new shoots in spring when temperatures warm up enough.
He pruned it some time ago, I think it was Spring 2015.
My friend said it would grow back but it's been in stump form for some time now and not looking good.
Okay I will upload one tomorrow once it's light.
Thank you!
Not too promising if it hasn't made any new growth for almost two years
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Yes, that was my thoughts also.
On a positive note, there was a green shoot last summer but it's died back over the Winter.
I think it's had it. Dig out the stump and roots, bung in loads of well rotted garden compost of a bag of multi-purpose compost to revitalise the soil and treat yourself to a new plant.
So sad as it's been in the garden over 10 years.
Will upload photo tomorrow but think you are right.
I'd agree with Obelixx. If it's a goner - see it as an opportunity for a new start - in more ways than one, Metalmama.

Here are some photos.
The fact is a dead flower on which was okay in the Summer, gives me some hope.
Thanks for all your advice and will wait for your feedback

Sorry about the first fuzzy one.
