Have u pruned this Penstemon right?
Hi guys,
I have some Penstemon in pots ready to go out in the garden in spring. They were taken from cuttings and were about 10inches tall and I pruned them today down to a lower pair of leaves. HaveI pruned it back enough or should I go even lower?
I know you shouldnt prune penstemon that are outside just yet but these ones are under cover and kept in frost free conditions.
Also a couple other things. Is it worth pinching back Penstemon and If so how many times? And should I pinch back annual Cornflowers?

That sounds fine. I wouldn't go lower. They should branch and then you can pinch to form a bush. Stop pinching around May. You can pinch back cornflowers , but I don't think it matters much if you don't.
Oops sorry I forgot to include photos!

Verdun: In the photo with the 2 plants, the one on the right hand side would you go down even further to the lowest set of leaves right near the bottom?
If I do this won't I just have 2 stems? How will it bush out?
Fantastic I will do that tomorrow
and just to confirm Verdun, the one of the right would you leave that thick central stem alone or would you cut it back to the very lowest shoots and then cut those lowest shoots back by half?
Haha think we crossed there again Verdun
