Bermuda Solar Pond Pump Battery

Hi

I have a Bermuda Mars Solar Fountain pump and the battery went dead.

On the product info I have with the pump it says the batteries life is around 12 -18 months but can be replaced so I bought a replacement.

I connected it all up fine and it powers the pump but seems to now not understand the buttons on the control house. When the cables are connected the pump comes on and the panel will let me switch from solar to battery. But this seems to do nothing and if I press the off button it keeps going, it only stops if I pull the cable out from the Front of the House? And keeps running if the solar panel is not connected.Any advice would be great
