Purple pond slime
Hi, I think my little wildlife pond has Anoxygenic Photosynthetic Bacteria!
I thought it initially looked like diesel film but there is no smell yet and all of the oxygenators have turned purple. The water is clear purple.
Is it still providing oxygen to the wildlife?
How did it get there?
My other ponds don't have it and it is in a similar type of position. It was clear all last year and the 6 or so years before that.
This particular pond was visited by newts.
It was cleared out and moved to its present position beginning of last year. It did get pond weed all over the top. Could this be as a result of the pond weed freezing and dying?
HELP PLEASE!

Is the water a clear purple when you scoop some out and put it in a jar? What kind of oxygenators have you got?
Just wondering if it is something like fairy weed which will turn purple if frosted or too cold........
I have hornwort in that pod.
It was covered in teeny tiny plants that frogs usually bring in that form a green blanket. It has even teenier tinier roots underneath and just floats there. If it gets too much I just scoop it out. It did freeze solid this year though so am wondering if this has caused these tiny floaters to putrify .
Do I clear some of the water out and add more rainwater?
